Bruno's is a self distributing regional grocery retailer consisting of a
1.25 million square foot DC serving 220 stores of three separate format strategies.
Bruno's weekly deliveries consist of 2280 orders of dry grocery, produce, meat-frozen-dairy fleets on 1420 trailers.
Business Problem
- Company need to restore store service performance to lift sagging customer loyalty
- Distribution center building and material handling equipment in serious disrepair
- Insufficient local labor market capacity
- Capital budget nearly non-existent
TPG Challenge
- Assist new management team to understand operations performance pinch points
- Recommend strategy and tactics to provide greatest short term improvement with smallest capital investment
Results
- Developed revised strategy of operation and revised pick line slotting to reduce service performance degradation related to mechanized system downtimes
- Created conceptual designs for worst pinch points of meat and HBA departments
- Developed prioritized action sequence to guide re-work effort of internal resources
