Warehouse Slotting
Boost labor productivity in the warehouse for a relatively low investment.

What is Warehouse Slotting?

Picking is one of the most labor-intensive components in a warehouse operation. Warehouse Slotting is a sure shot way to reduce picking labor. This is accomplished by placing the most popular SKU (Stock Keeping Unit)s in the most convenient of locations in your warehouse, thereby reducing the travel time of the picker. The savings on picking labor can be further enhanced by grouping pick slots of items that are frequently picked together. Optimizing the slots in this manner that leads to savings in picking is known as warehouse slotting.

Where are the savings in warehouse slotting?

When pick slots are too small for the current velocity of a product, the result is excessive replenishment labor and stock-outs. Alternately, when pick slots are too large, picker productivity is negatively impacted due to increased travel time.

Thus, a warehouse that is slotted correctly has the right amount of product on the shelves that strikes a balance between travelling time while picking and the labor in replenishment. warehouse slotting

A properly slotted warehouse can also significantly improve ergonomics and reduce injuries by concentrating activity in the golden zone.
